Description

PIR insulation boards

Renovating a roof or floor often leaves little room for insulation. Rigid PIR foam limits heat flow in a shallow layer, helping preserve headroom and keep the proportions of the building assembly workable.

In a loft conversion, every centimetre beneath the slopes matters. PIR boards can form a continuous layer in the designed roof assembly. Their thermal performance can keep the layer thinner than some conventional materials. This leaves usable space and makes it easier to connect the interior lining to existing windows and finishes.

When upgrading a floor, thresholds and stairs often limit the available depth. A suitable PIR board can deliver the target thermal resistance within a shallow build-up. Select adequate compressive strength for the floor loads. The rigid material provides a level base for subsequent layers and its low weight eases handling in an occupied or partly refurbished building.

On flat roofs, boards can be cut to the roof outline and arranged around service penetrations. Choose the facing to suit the roof covering and installation method. Compatible adjoining layers help the rigid insulation deliver its intended thermal performance.

PIR can also be used to improve thermal conditions in a garage or small commercial building with limited alterations to the building envelope. Boards can be cut for narrow bays and details. Profiled edges help adjacent boards fit together. Pay particular attention to insulation continuity at roof edges and where different elements meet.

Select the board and build-up for its location in the floor, roof, wall or ceiling. The insulation can be selected together with the intended external covering and internal lining, allowing the same type of core to be used with different finishes in small refurbishments and larger projects.

SteelProfil supplies PIR insulation in first and second grades, with selected boards available from stock. Check current offers for larger lots and choose the thickness and facing for the area you want to insulate.
